About The Cancer Society of The Bahamas and the online donations service
The Cancer Society of The Bahamas, a registered non-profit organization, was established in The Commonwealth of The Bahamas in 1976. The Society aims to educate the public about Cancer so that it may be prevented or diagnosed and treated in its early stages; to be of service to cancer patients; and to raise funds to support these programmes.
The Cancer Society of The Bahamas is funded solely by public donations, which are raised through special fundraising events, private donations and memorial gifts.
Funds are channelled towards improving the Cancer Society’s equipment and facilities for cancer detection and treatment at the Princess Margaret Hospital, as well as to intensify public educational programmes about cancer.
The Cancer Society of The Bahamas has also made several donations: a fibreopticbronchoscope, a mammogram machine, a protective hood and apparatus for the safe mixing of chemotherapy drugs, dedicated to the memory of the late Dr. Ivor Fix, who gave many years of service to cancer patients in The Bahamas, and port-a-cath implant systems for chemotherapy patients. A scholarship has also been awarded for study in the United States in Cytotechnology, and on of Oncology Nursing in the United Kingdom.
All persons are invited to contribute to the Cancer Society of The Bahamas by participating in our online donations service by registering online via our website. We shall continue to publicise the convenience of our online donations facility to further the efforts of the Society. Our site includes all the areas into which we currently accept donations. It is the users’ responsibility to ensure that they select and donate to the intended area. We cannot accept responsibility for donations submitted to unintended categories. In such cases, you are advised to call our office immediately to indicate the intended submission, and we make the necessary efforts to redirect your contribution.
Fees and transaction charges
The only fees applicable to donation transactions are those charged by the card issuers. Card issuers set their rates based upon the volume of transactions and revenue processed. The current applicable card issuer fees for donations processed via Cancer Society of The Bahamas in association with CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank are charged their current rates for all major credit cards and major debit cards.
Unauthorised card use
When a donation is made the transaction is final and not disputable unless unauthorised use of your payment card is proven. If you become aware of fraudulent use of your card, or it is lost or stolen, you must notify your card provider in accordance with its reporting rules.
The online donations service of the Cancer Society of The Bahamas uses an advanced encryption technology provided by Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), a recognised authentication and encryption software. This means that the site encrypts all of your personal information and card details so that it is unreadable to anyone outside of the transaction process.
Full card details are not stored by the Cancer Society of The Bahamas on our servers. However, card details may be stored by our payment provider CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank for the purposes of processing your donation. Information that is stored by the Cancer Society of The Bahamas about individual donations is not made available to other organisations or companies without your express consent, and may be used by the Cancer Society of The Bahamas only to email you with information about other relevant products and services; to contact you to discuss, confirm or check your donation details or to use in aggregate form that is not personally identifiable for analysis of our online donations.
Limitation of Liability
In no circumstances will The Cancer Society of The Bahamas be liable for any claims, costs or damages, whether direct or consequential, arising as a result of your use of the online donations service or your inability to do so, your reliance on any content and/or goods and services associated with the site or any breach of these terms and conditions.
